Haemoglobin is the iron containing oxygen transport metalloprotein in red blood cells and is one of the most common laboratory tests ordered in a Point of Care setting. PoCT Haemoglobin quantitative measurements are assayed for immediate therapeutic decision and improved patient management. This PoCT EQA programme was introduced in 2008 to determine the accuracy of PoCT HB devices and assist point of care sites report laboratory accurate results.
POCT Haemoglobin Programme
The base material is purified stroma free bovine haemolysate, Haemoglobin EQA samples are distributed to both Primary and Secondary Point of Care sites no prior preparation is required. EQA samples should be refrigerated on receipt, they are stable at 4-8ºC for a year in the closed vial. Once opened the solutions are stable for 30 days at 4-8ºC .
