Job ref: 001-HS003-0120
Closing date: 8th March 2020
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Weqas Reference Measurement Laboratory which provides a Reference Measurement Service using Gold Standard methodology.
If you have a BSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science, Biochemistry or Chemistry and are looking for a grade II technical level job at a band 5 salary this could be the role for you.
The Weqas Reference Measurement laboratory is currently the only UK laboratory providing this service with accreditation to ISO 17025 incorporating ISO 15195 and is part of a limited global network of Reference Laboratories. Such laboratories lead the way in standardisation of routine measurement performance of methods used in pathology
laboratories aiding in global harmonisation of Laboratory Medicine results.
The Medical Technical Officer (grade II) is responsible for providing technical support for the day-to-day functions of the Reference Measurement Laboratory as required under the direction of the Section Head. This will involve operation and troubleshooting of highly complex measurement systems such as Mass Spectrometers and Spectrophotometers. The methodology used will be more complex in nature than that generally found within a routine biochemistry laboratory.
The role of the Reference Measurement Laboratory is to research and develop primary and/or secondary reference methods in order to give stated, traceable, measurement results in calibrator, QC and EQA material (body fluids).
To succeed in the post you will also need excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively on your own and as part of a team. NHS experience is not essential.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
