The Weqas management team provide leadership across all areas of the service. Each area has a dedicated senior responsible for overseeing the service in their specific area. Staff are encouraged to gain a thorough understanding of all areas of Weqas services, with individual staff members having specialist knowledge in specific areas over which they have more in depth responsibility.
Director of Weqas and Consultant Clinical Biochemist
Annette has over 30 years experience in Laboratory Medicine, 20 years of which has been as Director of Weqas. Annette is the Clinical Lead for Point of Care Testing (PoCT) at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, represents PoCT in Welsh Government Advisory Committees and is chair of the “All Wales” PoCT Co-ordinators Group.
Annette is a past executive board member of the European Committee for External Quality Assurance Programmes in Laboratory Medicine (EQALM) and is chair of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (ACB) National Audit Committee in the UK and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry Committee on Analytical Quality (IFCC C-AQ). She is a member of the ACB Scientific Committee, and a member of the European Federation in Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) Working Group on Performance Specifications for EQAS.
In 2019, EQALM honoured Annette by presenting her with the Adam Uldall award for the work she has done in the field of EQA. Annette was also awarded the Welsh Government Lifetime Achievement Award at the Advancing Healthcare Awards 2019.

Operations Manager, Training Officer
Samantha is the Operations Manager at Weqas with over 25 years experience in Laboratory Medicine. Sam worked as a Biomedical Scientist at the Medical Biochemistry and Immunology Department at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff before moving to Weqas in 1998. Since 2010 she has been employed as the Operations Manager responsible for the day to day management of EQA / IQC services, and is also the Training Officer for the organisation.
She is a current member of the IFCC Working Group on FIT and represents Weqas at the United Kingdom Proficiency Testing Committee.

R and D Manager
Gareth Davies is Clinical Biochemist and Research and Development Manager at Weqas with over 15 years experience in Laboratory Medicine. Gareth is responsible for new programme development and provides EQA interpretation, support and troubleshooting. He is a current member and former Minute Secretary of the All Wales Clinical Biochemistry Audit Group.
