Largest POCT EQA Provider in the UK

WEQAS is the largest provider of EQA services for the Point of Care Testing (POCT) market, and provide services to Secondary Care, Primary Care, Company Occupational Health providers and pharmacies. Our client base includes the majority of NHS Trust Laboratories within the UK and Ireland. For provision of POCT glucose EQA we provide material and EQA services to the majority of NHS Trusts within the UK, distributing over 20,000 samples per month. For provision of POCT Lipid EQA we provide material and EQA services to a number of well known retail pharmacies and Company Occupational Health providers.

Rigorous Quality Systems, Experienced Qualified Staff

We operate a Quality System based on ISO 9001:2000, ISO/ IEC 17025:1999 ISO Guide 43-1 and 2:1997 and ILAC G13. More recently we have also incorporated ISO 22870 "POCT – requirements for quality and competence" in our Quality system.   The organisation is directed by a consultant clinical biochemist with over 30 years experience in Laboratory Medicine.  Our staff now includes a POCT Manager and 3 POCT Trainers with a wealth of experience in dealing with queries from POCT sites.  We have a dedicated "hotline" for all enquires from our POCT clients. 

UKAS Accreditation

WEQAS is registered with United Kingdom Accreditation agency (UKAS) for conformity assessment- General requirements for proficiency testing (ISO/CASCO 17043:2010).   Our schemes were previously accredited with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA). The POCT glucose, Urinalysis and Pregnancy Testing Schemes were accredited in April 2004, the web based Lipid POCT Scheme accredited in March 2007 and the  Haemoglobin and International Normalised Ratio (INR) Schemes accredited in March 2009.

We have nearly 30 years experience as a National EQA provider and provide a large number of accredited EQA Schemes for Laboratory Medicine including HbA1c, pregnancy testing, and urine microalbumin.
