In the UK a national screening test has been implemented to increase the detection rates of colorectal cancer. Weqas are now offering an accredited FOB/FIT (Faecal occult blood test and Faecal immunochemical testing) EQA programme. The FOB and qualitative FIT programmes are both ISO 17043 accredited. The guaiac FOB is one of several methods that detects the presence of faecal occult blood (FOB). Faecal Immunochemical testing (FIT) test is a much more specific test for bleeding from the colon or lower gastrointestinal tract, it does not detect occult blood from the stomach and upper small intestine.
The FOB/FIT programme provides two samples per distribution, ten distributions are shipped in one batch. This programme is prepared from organic material designed to simulate the composition of human faeces, the returned data is analysed by method group. Data analysis examines the position of the clinical cut-off point within each cycle’s data (i.e. where the Pos:Neg ratio is 50%). Samples with lower levels of Hb in faeces are distributed to assess the performance of FIT methods to ensure optimal screening of individuals at risk of colorectal cancer.
Frequency: 2 samples tested every 2 weeks
Samples per set: 5 distributions dispatched in one batch.
